Chukka Ramaiah in fray for Council elections

HYDERABAD: Noted educationist Chukka Ramaiah is among several candidates being fielded by the United Teachers' Federation (UTF) for elections to the State Legislative Council from the teachers and graduates constituencies.

Prof. Ramaiah will be the candidate for the teachers' constituency representing Khammam, Nalgonda and Warangal districts. UTF State president Ch. Subhashchandra Bose and former president D. Rami Reddy, a former MLC, are being fielded from different districts.

State general secretary N. Narayana told reporters here on Thursday that for the remaining five constituencies of teachers, the organisation will support P. Subba Reddy, president of the State Teachers Union, K.S. Laxman Rao, a lecturer from Guntur, Rajendra Babu, president of the Junior Colleges Principals Association, Hanumandlu, a leader of the Andhra Pradesh Teachers' Federation (APTF), and another candidate of the APTF. Among candidates for eight graduates constituencies are: K. Nageswar, former Head, Department of Journalism, Osmania University, K. George Victor, East Godavari district president of UTF, V. Balasubrahmaniam, State secretary of the JVV, B. Sarala, sarpanch of Haveli in Khammam, and M.V.S. Sarma.
